Role Description

The Lead Coach is an on-site role based in Portsmouth and Havant responsible for delivering high-quality, fun, and engaging football sessions for children of varying ages and abilities. Day-to-day, the Lead Coach plans and leads training sessions, holiday camps, and events aligned with the Football Fun Factory® curriculum and ethos. The role includes managing session logistics, ensuring participant safety and wellbeing, and maintaining a positive, inclusive atmosphere. The Lead Coach handle registrations and attendance. Additional responsibilities include supporting local marketing activities, building strong relationships within the community, and mentoring assistant coaches or volunteers to uphold consistent coaching standards.

Qualifications

  • Strong coaching and leadership abilities, including experience leading children’s sports sessions and managing groups of mixed ages and abilities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with children, parents, and colleagues.

  • Organizational and time-management skills to plan sessions, manage schedules, and oversee safe, efficient operations on-site.

  • Enthusiasm for football and youth development, with a positive attitude and commitment to creating inclusive, enjoyable experiences.

  • Relevant coaching certifications (e.g., FA coaching badges or equivalent) and knowledge of child safeguarding and basic first aid.

  • Experience working with children in coaching, education, or youth work settings; background checks suitable for working with minors are required.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and to collaborate within a franchise-driven, growth-oriented organization.
